Clutch and Flywheel
Important change points to note during the TD/TF production run:
The TD began production with a 7.25" clutch assembly. The starter motor was the smaller Lucas unit requiring a ring gear with 120 teeth but the bare flywheel was identical to that used on the TC. From engine no XPAG TD9408 the larger 8" clutch assembly was fitted requiring a change in flywheel and ring gear although this still had 120 teeth. At the same time the clutch housing was changed to allow fitting of a larger 3/4" diameter cross shaft and associated levers to cope with the increased stresses imposed by the stronger clutch. The TD up to chassis TD22250 was fitted with a clutch operating cable but from TD22251 this was changed for the stronger rod which continued through the TF production run. This required the fitting of a clutch pedal stop inside the pedal box. If you have trouble with the clutch cable on an early car you could make an improvement by fitting the later rod.
